About
David Hoskins has created compelling images from nature and true-life settings for over 30 years. He was an early adopter of digital imaging and has created spectacular photos from around the world. This site showcases a selection of David’s portrait, wildlife and travel photos.
Like most photographers I am fascinated with different genres. I began with scenics shot in black & white using medium format cameras. Mamiya and Bronica cameras served me well until digital came along. Among the images on this website several were shot with film, either medium format or 35 mm. Kind of hard to imagine in the digital age. The scenic images of Greece reflect our love for this country and specifically the island of Santorini. Along the way I fell in love with Africa and Wildlife.
I traveled to Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Rwanda, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Botswana, South Africa and Namibia always looking for new wildlife and adventure. Always staying in tented camps and away from the Safari lodges. I hope you enjoy the images from those trips. Lions, Cheetahs and Leopards hold a special fascination for me. Perhaps because we have enjoyed our own cats, we see in these wild cats the same movements and behaviors of our domestic cats. I have tried to capture that feeling in these images. I believe the more a photographer works a theme or genre the more significant and meaningful those images become. In the last couple of years I have become fascinated by dancers, particularly Belly Dancers. The costumes and movements are beautiful and require anticipating the decisive moment. I am still working this theme and hope to have more dancers in the future. As you look through the images here I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I have enjoyed making them and bringing them to you.
